Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional correspondent. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She has covered several notable news stories throughout the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
